Career Day 2010 Top 5 Related Fields

posted March 31st, 2010 in Fashion Designer, Graphic Design, Interior Designer by jillharding

Last week Boundless Design was asked for the third year in a row to present our career as Graphic Designers to ~ 90 sixth grade students at Center Grove Middle School North. We enjoy career day and presenting to the students. Many students often ask meaningful questions and this year was the same. In fact, several students asked us more challenging and deeper questions than we sometimes even get from adults.

At career day, we present educational background, training, career experiences, describe a typical day in the design studio, character traits, salary range, etc. We also described “what we remembered as being our sixth grade dream profession/goal?”

The students all in all had a great day as we shared several tactical examples from business cards, to apparel, to brochures, to websites, etc. We also handed out several Blabber Duckies and color stripe bracelets which both were a huge hit with the students.

Career Day also challenged us to come up with a Top 5 List of Related Fields to Graphic Design :

  1. Art Teacher
  2. Web Designer
  3. Fashion Designer
  4. Interior Designer
  5. Event (Space) Planner

How brand loyal are you?

posted March 12th, 2010 in Graphic Design by jillharding

How brand loyal are you? Brand loyalty, in marketing, consists of a consumer’s commitment to repurchase or otherwise continue using the brand and can be demonstrated by repeated buying of a product or service or other positive behaviors. There are certain brands that have been leading their specific industries for many many years. Some of the brands have even taken over the products’ names for instance Band-Aid is currently American’s #1 bandage brand and many folks refer to bandages as Band-Aids. Kleenex is another great for instance - many folks refer to facial tissues as Kleenexes.

So how brand loyal are you or are you not? Does it matter to you what brands you use or do you always use some of the same brands? The examples above are two great well established brands which have lead their specific industries so much so their product names are used “generically.”

Recently BD ran out of a staple food product “peanut butter” - so to the store one goes to replace the empty container. We have always purchased “Peter Pan” - and always is the real deal. Well when the one comes back with the replacement peanut butter they purchased a jar of “Jif.” This example quickly was a great example of why we are so brand loyal to Peter Pan as we did not really care for the taste of Jif. When one is loyal to a certain brand they typically have had a great experience and get the same results every time.
